I asked AI to help me complain about AI
I’ve been struggling a lot with social media lately, and of course as a recruiter by “social media” I mean LinkedIn.
Us recruiters spend a lot of time on LinkedIn. It’s like a social network for business nerds, but it’s become an absolute cesspit over the past 6 months.
What’s ruined it? Well, it’s 2026’s hero and villain rolled into one - AI.
The AI posts on LinkedIn are constant. And if it’s not written by AI, then it’s some questionably thoughtful take on AI; from its impact to climate change, to how it’s going to take all our jobs.
Or, it’s every man and his recruiter who is building the next gen sourcing tool, ATS or, career defining pivot that will blow recruiters minds. Literally. Recruiters seem to have collectively run scared from the way AI is shaping our profession and straight into the arms of software and product development despite being questionably qualified for the task (no worries, that’s what my buddy Claude is for…).
It’s actually ruined LinkedIn because it’s all. So. Fake. There isn’t anyone sharing real problems, or even real solutions. It’s just a plethora of ego stroking, self aggrandising, and questionable think pieces. No, Sheryl, no one wants to hear about what sourdough baking taught you about talent acquisition.
Like seriously, is THIS what we are using AI for in 2026? Are we all so devoid of personality now that we need to exclusively consume homogenous AI content developed for the masses? Or is no one really reading it which cancels out the whole exercise in the first place so it doesn’t really matter?
And, I have to ask the question - is any of it really growing your business and your profile as an expert?
I don’t know if it’s a hot take but I’m nostalgic for a time before AI and social media were cohabitating. LinkedIn was meant to be a professional networking site, but it’s turned into having a pissing contest about who knows more or can use AI better.
Don’t get me wrong, AI has a place as an important business tool but I am yearning for more authentic, honest, and genuine content. Real stories. Real successes. Real failures - not a megaphone for anyone who's capable of creating a prompt.
Because let’s be honest, those are the posts that actually perform because they stand out as unique amongst a sea of scheduled scripted spam. The real stuff, the hard stuff. And positioning yourself as an expert isn’t about how you post, but about how you show up for your clients and candidates. Every. Single. Day.
And with all that being said, turns out I’ve just made another piece of content about AI myself. Well, damn.
